My Project Proposal

My aim is to write and record two EPs as opposed to an album. My thinking behind this is that I love both sides of my music but feel that for my acoustic songs, the studio doesn't have limitations, so the live EP can give limitations to work. My first EP will consist of me working with Tom Storey and filming live top quality videos of just me in varied locations. Some of the songs will be written in the space but most of them will be tailored to sound better in the space I am using. 

The first step needed for this task is to research what places I will be filming and recording in. I am thinking of 6 songs which will mean the same amount of locations.

 

The locations I am thinking about:

A cave 

An aquarium 

A river/lake

On a Hill

In a forest - Westonbirt national arboretum 

A rooftop

A sunflower field

An orchard 

Cathedral/Abbey - Bath Abbey 

Bitton station 

 

The setup for these videos will be very simple with probably 2 static cameras and one moving on a stabiliser with some drone shots of the location to add aerial landscapes. The audio will be 1 vocal mic and the acoustic guitar in stereo with 2 mics. I will need to do some more research into what microphones to use as the elements could be a problem for recording. I won’t need power for most of the videos but 1 or 2 could include synth looping in them. The collaborative nature for this project will entail me working closely with a videographer to create beautiful looking videos with lovely acoustic songs with very little editing on the natural sounding audio. 

 

The second EP will consist of some co-written songs with a few other musicians and also working with musicians and producers to develop existing work. I am not sure if the actual recording of this will take place during the collaboration module but the writing and documenting of it on video hopefully will. I will be using some of the collaboration sessions to write and just see what happens. Again this EP will consist of about 6 songs with some co-written hopefully. 

 

 

At the moment I will be focusing on the live filmed EP and hopefully working to a schedule - writing/choosing an existing song to fit the location every other week and recording that song every other adjacent week. This is hypothetical at the moment but will see if I can stick to it.
